GM Dobrov first in Vladimir Petrov Memorial Blitz

Russian Grandmaster Vladimir Dobrov took a clear first place with 7,5/9 points in the 3rd Vladimir Petrov Memorial held on 20th February in the Amber Beach resort (Jaunkemeri).

He took his place after defeating earlier leader GM Normunds Miezis in the final round of the Blitz tournament. The Blitz Tournament progressed with 81 players from six countries who played with time control  4 minutes plus 3 seconds for each move starting with the first move; 9 rounds. Prize fund announced for this event is 80% of entry fees. The entry fee is 10 Euros.

 

The 3rd Vladimir Petrov Memorial is organized by Latvian Chess Federation from 20-23 February, 2014, in Jurmala, Latvia.

 

The Vladimir Petrov Memorial tournament will be held in three groups A, B and C. Tournament A features 15 round Swiss with the time control 15 minutes for each player plus 6 seconds increment for each move. First round is scheduled on 21st of February 2014 at 17.30 hours and the last round will take place on 23rd of February at 19.00 hours. The total prize fund announced for the winner is 4000 Euros or 1600 Euros + 80% of entry fees, whichever amount is higher.

 

Tournament B is reserved for players rated 1875-2324. Here the time control is 12 minutes plus 5 seconds per move; Swiss system; 12 rounds. The prize fund will be 75% of all entry fees.

 

Tournament C is reserved for players rated less than 1875. Time control is 12 minutes plus 5 seconds per move; Swiss system; 12 rounds. The prize fund will be 75% of all entry fees.

This tournament is organized every year with an aim to pay homage to one of the brilliant representatives of Latvian Chess who died in Soviet camps during the Second World War. The memorial will see the appearance of some of the leading Latvian Grandmasters and Grandmasters from neighboring countries.
