In 1993 Nigel Short manages to win Karpov and his road to the World Chess Championship match opened. However, before the start of the match with Kasparov, both players complain of corruption and a lack of professionalism within FIDE. Thus, they created their own organization; competitive to FIDE, Professional Chess Association (PCA). The main goal of PCA was to organize the World Chess Championships. During this period we have two different championships ongoing.

In 1993, with Short, and 1995, with Anand, it manages to create two successful Championship circles and the matches. Nonetheless, in 1996 loses the main sponsor, Intel, because Kasparov agreed to play a match with the supercomputer Deep Blue. It had been created by IBM, a competitive company. Kasparov never manages to create another World Chess Championship circle and finally he defeated in 2000 by Kramnik.
